Local Illinois Flavor.
Check it out, we're in the news!
Our first crop of Cascade and Chinook went into the ground April 23. 2016, but not without the valiant efforts of our 2016 Planting Crew! Thanks to all the family and friends who stopped by to help on this momentous day!
Harvest 2017 went very well with 2nd year hops, the implementation of some new machinery, and the pelletizing and nitrogen-purge packaging of our hops.
6/2/18 - Planting Day 2018 went super well and super quick! 2 acres in the ground with Michigan Copper, Triple Perle and Hallertaur! Thanks for everyone who came out to help plant (and enjoy the beer after!)! These baby plants are going to spend the rest of this year growing on the ground and working on their root systems.
Brewed TV came out to visit the farm, check it out!
Sharp Mountain Hops is proud to offer fresh Illinois hops as an offshoot of Scharfenberg Farms, a family owned and operated farming operation in West Central Illinois. Proprietor, Dave Scharfenberg, has been in the business of farming (mainly a variety of corn and soybeans) since he was a boy growing up on his father's farm.
He and his wife, Andrea, have successfully built Scharfenberg Farms over the past 40+ years and now, with their children, they are expanding their crop selection to include those little hops cones that give beer the delicious taste you have come to know and love!
Sharp Mountain Hops will provide a new, exciting endeavor for the Illinois family farm and the chance to get involved in the quickly growing American craft beer industry.
